Did you know?
"Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food"
This was said by Hippocrates in 460 BC, who obviuosly was aware of the importance of food even at that time. Amazing.
What to eat?
In the following I will share with you some simple guidelines, easy to follow to take the first steps in changing your diet.
(the first 7 points are based on the book Michael Pollen: Food Rules)
Foods to avoid:

1. “Eat FOOD, not too much, mostly plants.”
Basically eat when you are hungry not when you are bored or sad. And of course stop eating before you explode like a balloon. Vegetables are easier to digest than meat, they contain a lot of nutrients while meat can be hard to break down, can contain hormones, antibiotics and harmful bacteria such as e-koli.
2. “Eat only foods that will eventually rot.”
Some foods contain so much chemicals and preservatives that after a few month storage they look exactly the same. This is not natural.
Try to avoid fast foods and ready meals as much as possible.
3. “Do all your eating at a table.”
But even if you are alone the food tastes better when you cook it and eat it at a nicely set table while listening to your favorite music. Also we eat way less when we are not distracted by other activities and we enjoy it more!
4. “Avoid food products containing ingredients that a third-grader cannot pronounce.”
Let me ask you a question. Do you know what you eat? I mean do you know what is really in your food?
5. “Eat only foods that have been cooked by humans.”
Listen to me, it is not food if it arrived through the window of your car. Cooking can be fun and meditative at the same time. You also eat less when you have to cook it first!

6. “Eat well grown food from healthy soil.”
If possible go for local, organically produced ingredients when you do your shopping. If you are lucky enough to have your our garden or land enjoy keeping a vegetable garden.
7. “The whiter the bread the sooner you will be dead.”
Avoid refined things such as refined grains, carbohydrates and sugars. Generally ‘whole’ things, such as whole grains contain all the fibers, vitamins and healthy oils that the refined things don’t.
8. “Drink lots of clean water”
Did you know that the most important nutrient (beside oxygen) of the body is water? According to Wikipedia you can survive without water from 3 to 5 days while some can go without food for weeks even months. Don't you think that water is kind of important?
9. Introduce wholesome juices in your diet
Drinking big glass of fresh juice can equal eating 1 kg of raw fruit and vegetables. By drinking fresh juices you put larger amount of nutrients into the body quicker and it is easier to digest than solid food plus this is the best way to get important enzymes into the body which are primary found in raw fruits and vegetables.
10. Introduce superfoods in your diet
Superfoods contain a lot of antioxidants and essential nutrients (what your body needs but cannot make itself) such as minerals, vitamins, fibers, amino-acids and live enzymes but they are very low in calories.

By implementing some of these simple changes in your diet you will keep your body clean, your immune system strong, you will be more healthy and enjoy your life to the fullest. It si worth a try don't you think?
